The Jeep Grand Cherokee is powered by one of two engines: a 3.6 liter V6 or a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. While rear-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available. The Jeep Grand Cherokee with all-wheel drive is powered by one of multiple drive systems, including the Quadra-Trac I and Quadra-Trac II. An electronically locking limited-slip differential is also available with the all-wheel drive Jeep Grand Cherokee. Some Grand Cherokees will offer Selec-Terrain, which allows for drivers to match the drive system to the driving conditions, including mud and snow.

To get the most off-road capable Grand Cherokee, drivers should consider the Trailhawk trim. This trim offers an adjustable air suspension and a disconnecting sway bar.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is able to tow between 6,200 and 7,000 pounds depending upon the powertrain selected. In particular, the Trailhawk is rated with the higher towing capacity.
